- I'm a retired computer programmer who now writes sci-fi (www.rustywilliamson.com) and creates computer animated book trailers (www.virtualmediastudios.com). I live in San Diego with my wife of 43 years and our dog. I've been a sci-fi fan for over 40 years and over that time I've come up with a dozen or so sci-fi stories that, now that I have the time, I want to tell. I also love all phases of creating animated book trailers in, what I call, digital-realism (you can tell it’s a cartoon but it also looks real). In 2002 I created a company to create computer animated book trailers, Virtualmedia Studios (www.virtualmediastudios.com) and found out right away that computer animation was far too costly for authors and publishers. For years I attempted to ‘assembly line’ the process to bring costs down and I have…but not quite enough…yet. Therefore, for now, I only create book trailers for my own books. Only I can afford them. A few years ago I self-published (Amazon) my first sci-fi book--book one of four part series—a story idea I dreamt up in ’92 which I consider to be my best story idea. I did not realize it was going to be more than one book until I had written one and one half of the books (whoops). The Spiral Slayers – Book One: Encounters (http://tinyurl.com/nxnhkkh) got awesome reviews—from Kirkus (http://tinyurl.com/kjmnyyu) as well as readers. I don’t know how to promote this kind of stuff and so, so far, sales are still in double digits. The trailer was also well-received (http://youtu.be/e_qrp-b7B6c). Book 2, Countdown Armageddon first draft was completed on 12/2014, it went to beta readers and I learned that there was room for improvement—I am working on that now. The first draft of the storyboard for book 2’s book trailer has been created and character model testing has started. For all that…I’ve only seen a few scattered book trailers…before they were everywhere, I studied movie trailers--time to change that.
